About Us

Meet the Team

Staff:

Megan Nelson
Community Health Coordinator
(she/her)

Megan is a licensed master social worker in New York State. She advises the group organizers on sustainable community growth, and is available as a point-person for those who have concerns related to the NYC EA community. Outside of EA, she enjoys growing unusual houseplants, caring for small animals, and taking very long walks in search of the city's best vegan sandwiches. You can email her here, or contact her anonymously here.

Arthur Malone

Arthur Malone

Head of Special Projects
(he/him)

Arthur has been engaged with EA since before the movement settled on a name, and reoriented from academics toward supporting highly impactful work. He has since developed operations skills by working with EA-affiliated organizations and in the private sector. Alongside EA interests, Arthur finds inspiration in nerdy art about heroes trying to save the universe. You can email him here.

Alex Rahl-Kaplan

Community Coordinator

(they/them)

Alex is an operations generalist who started interacting with Effective Altruism primarily through EA NYC! They previously worked in solar operations and volunteered for the Effective Environmentalism community. Alex enjoys hiking, reading, and listening to music. You can reach them here.

Rockwell Schwartz

Director

(she/her)

Rocky first became interested in Effective Altruism as a college philosophy minor and animal activist. She spent eight years working in animal advocacy, most recently as COO of an EA-aligned nonprofit startup. Rocky spends her downtime rescuing and caring for animals, reading webtoons, and eating too many vegan pastries. You can email her here.

Board Members:

Chris Corliss
(he/him)

Chris has been co-organizing the group since 2015, and has the great distinction of having run all of our events out of his living room at one point in time. He works in financial software.

Gemma
(she/her)

Gemma became interested in Effective Altruism through veganism and animal rights. She works in academia, doing research in interpretable machine learning.

Jacob Eliosoff

(he/him)

Jacob’s favorite things about EA are the head-scratchers (selfish spending, wild animal suffering, ...) and the EA NYC community. He works in cryptocurrencies, which he loves less.
