EA NYC COVID-19 Policy
Last updated: March 2, 2022
EA NYC hosts both in-person and virtual events. We ask that those considering attending in-person events assess their personal risk tolerance. We suggest using this calculator, which lets you estimate COVID risk and find effective safety measures for customizable situations.
Proof of Vaccination
For all indoor events, we require proof of vaccination.
Other People in a Venue
In some cases, we are unable to confirm proof of vaccination for venue staff or others in a connected building, e.g. when we are utilizing one room of a restaurant. In accordance with New York law, people 12 and older are required to show identification and proof they have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine and most venues we utilize seem to enforce this. We will do our best to accurately answer any questions regarding who attendees can expect to be utilizing a shared building.
On-Site Rapid Testing
We require all event attendees to complete an on-site, self-administered rapid test upon arrival and remain masked for 15 minutes until their results are complete. This allows us to not only identify if someone is currently positive, but also better understand the likelihood of spreading should someone report a positive test in the days following an event.
Sign-Ins
All event attendees are required to provide their name and email address upon arrival. Attendees have the option of signing up for the EA NYC newsletter but will not receive emails if they do not select this option. We require attendees to sign in so that we have a method of contacting everyone should someone report a positive test subsequent to the event.
Past Risks
On November 18, 2021, we hosted an indoor social event in a private space at which all attendees rapid-tested negative. On November 20, one attendee became symptomatic and the following day he tested positive for COVID. It is unclear if the attendee was contagious at the event, though we promptly notified all attendees and received no further reports of positive tests. It is also unclear if he caught COVID at the event. The attendee, who was fully vaccinated and had recently received his booster shot, experienced mild symptoms and made a full recovery.
Considerations
If you or a loved one are at a higher risk of getting severely ill from COVID, you may wish to only attend virtual events or outdoor events, or remain masked during indoor events.
If you will be traveling within two weeks of the event, you may wish to not attend in person or remain masked during the event.
If you have recently had exposure to someone who is positive for COVID, we ask that for the safety of the community you do not attend in-person events until you have tested negative and that you familiarize yourself with New York close contact requirements regarding quarantines and testing.
